Courtyard Marriott
The brief for this project was to design a fresh new lobby for this long-established hotel in Dubai's Green Community which caters primarily to a business guest. MDI took a tired, Mediterranean-inspired design and started fresh, maintaining only the existing tile flooring and much of the ceiling design to save on costs. Situated beside a man-made lake, the hotel lobby was inundated with water issues, at times finding the sunken portion of the lobby partially under water. The floor was raised to one level and waterproofing measures were taken. MDI made recommendations for finishing to alleviate the risk of future water damage by incorporating a wood look tile flooring. The ceiling was repainted all in white to brighten the space and make the most of the natural light. A contemporary reception area was created based on the operator's new branding and a cafe was added. The focal point of the new lobby was the construction of a living moss wall, featuring a large central sculpture to create an exciting initial impact. This recently completed project was completed on time and on budget and created a brand new experience for this well established business hotel.
